State-by-State Fact Sheets: April Employment Data

Key Points:
Since President Biden took office, 8.3 million jobs have been created nationwide, an average of 553,000 created each month.
In April, all 50 states and the District of Columbia saw unemployment decline or remain stable, and all added jobs or saw their payrolls hold steady.
Seventeen states now have their lowest unemployment rate in history.

Each month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) releases national and state-level data on U.S. employment, which provide useful information about the state of the labor market and progress toward building a better America. To highlight key trends in the monthly data, the Joint Economic Committee compiles state-by-state fact sheets for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.  The most recent state-level data, which cover the month of April, were released on May 20, 2022. The latest national data were released on May 6, 2022.

Fact sheets will be updated next on June 21, 2022, following the BLS release of new state employment data on June 17.
