Dear Friends,

Joint Economic Committee Democrats under the leadership of Ranking Member Martin Heinrich have had a busy year. Since January, the JEC Dems have released more than three dozen reports, garnered more than 350 media mentions, and reached people nearly 4 million times on Twitter. We've spent the past year supporting congressional offices with our economic analysis, spreading the word about the harm that the Republican agenda could cause working families, and highlighting the challenges and opportunities facing rural Americans.

In April, we held the President accountable for his first 100 days of broken promises. We then reminded Americans that President Trump's child care plan would do little to help working families who spend at least 15 percent of their income on child care on average. We explained that the administration's infrastructure proposal relied heavily on public-private partnerships and would benefit Wall Street, not rural America. And we also underscored that the administration's proposal to gut energy efficiency programs would cost jobs and taxpayer money.

This year we also made clear that our national monuments and public lands are an economic engine that can be sustained for generations. We highlighted that universal pre-kindergarten gives children the opportunity to acquire the skills they need for a brighter future and strengthens the foundation of our economy. We celebrated the economic contributions of DACA recipients, including those living in rural areas as well.

This, of course, was in addition to our work fighting against Republicans’ multiple attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and their efforts to increase taxes on working families in order to give tax breaks to the wealthiest. You can find all of our resources on these and other topics in the publication section of our website here.

And to close out 2017, we put together a report on the "Worst of 2017: How Republicans Stacked the Deck Against Working Families."

Thank you for joining us in 2017. We hope you'll stay up to date with the latest from JEC Dems in the New Year!

Sincerely,

The Democratic Staff of the Joint Economic Committee.
