  • Future Generations
  • Public Schools
  • Sick People
  • And many, many more...

Rural DACA by the Numbers

Deferred Action Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients play a large role in rural communities, where their economic contributions are helping rural towns get back on their feet from years of slow economic growth. In rural America, these estimated tens of thousands of young people are part of the answer to building sustainable economies in small towns across the country. Failing to Reauthorize CHIP Leaves States and Children in the Lurch

Failing to reauthorize the Children's Health Insurance Plan (CHIP) funding shifts a huge financial burden onto states, forcing states to choose between denying health coverage to children and cutting other budget priorities. The short-term funding would cover less than a quarter of states’ shortfall. Without full, permanent funding, states will face at least a $10 billion total shortfall next year. For state-by-state data on CHIP enrollment and funding, check out our fact sheet here.

Republican Agenda Threatens Market Stability, Puts Main Street at Risk

With equity market valuations at highs only seen right before the stock market crash of 1929 and the Dotcom crash of 2000, now is the time that policymakers should be focused on maintaining stability, protecting consumers, and promoting sustainable growth. Instead Republicans are pursuing an agenda that will feed bubbles, leave consumers and small investors vulnerable to fraud and abuse, and undermine financial stability.  Read our report on the threat of the Republican agenda to market stability here.
Op-Ed: Tax plan overlooks rural residents

Ranking Member Martin Heinrich released an op-ed this week explaining how the Republican tax plan abandons rural residents. He explains that the Republican plan has its priorities backwards: it focuses on the top and assures everyone else that benefits will trickle down to them. But the reality is that nearly 28 million working families across the country will face a tax increase within 10 years. And in New Mexico, more than 200,000 families with earnings under $74,000 will see their taxes go up. Read the op-ed in the Deming Headlight here.
