Chairman Lee on September's Employment Numbers

Today, Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee Mike Lee (R-UT) released the following statement in response to the U.S. Labor Department September 2020 jobs report:

"The 661,000 payroll jobs added in September have pushed us past the halfway point in recovering the jobs lost since the pandemic struck. Fortunately, the unemployment rate has also fallen, down to 7.9 percent from its high of 14.7 percent in April. Though we still have a way to go for a full recovery, we must remember that federal spending cannot sustainably restore the American economy or create jobs long-term. Only Americans’ confidence in the adaptive ingenuity and safety protocols of the places of business, worship, and learning that they frequent can sustain our existing progress and support a continued recovery."
