Ranking Member Mike Lee on September Jobs Report

WASHINGTON—Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), Ranking Member of the Joint Economic Committee, made the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 263,000 jobs in September:

"As the economy continues to struggle, American workers are bearing the brunt of falling real wages and rising prices. In addition, the share of Americans on the sidelines of the labor market remains far above its pre-pandemic level. This month’s job growth is far from enough to return still struggling Americans back to work.

"Now that President Biden agrees that the pandemic is over, it’s time to return to the pro-growth policies that brought millions of Americans back into the labor market in the years before trillions of dollars of unnecessary Government spending launched us into the current economic crisis."

The Joint Economic Committee is Congress's bicameral economic research center and home of the Social Capital Project, led by Ranking Member Mike Lee.
