News Spotlight:
JEC Democrats released three reports on the dangerous threats TrumpCare poses to Americans across the country. The findings in these reports conclude that the House Republican bill would make it harder for rural Americans to obtain health insurance; cut funding used for the treatment of substance use disorders (SUDs ); and limit access to and increase costs for mental health services.
Less than a decade after the 2008 financial crisis, House Republicans are hoping to overturn the financial safeguards put in place to prevent the next financial crisis and to protect consumers from the costs of reckless, abusive, and fraudulent behavior on Wall Street. JEC Democrats released a briefing last week outlining why the Financial CHOICE Act, H.R. 10, is the wrong choice for America.

April Jobs Report: Politico - Trump gets boost from job growth Democrats agreed that the report was strong, but credited the Obama administration. Joint Economic Committee ranking member Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) said: “These numbers continue to indicate the success of a growing economy inherited by President Trump” and noted that “we have yet to see any clear plan on creating jobs and raising wages from the president or congressional Republicans."
Fact Sheet:
JEC Democrats released a fact sheet, “The Retirement Crisis,” which details how many American workers do not have access to a retirement savings plan through their employer and many earn too little to save. The fact sheet shows that more than 30 percent of workers do not have access to retirement benefits through their employer, and nearly 70 percent of the lowest-paid workers do not have access to a retirement plan.

The Texas House of Representatives rejected a bill this month that would allow public-private partnerships (P3), a key component of President Trump’s infrastructure plan, to participate in highway projects in the state. Relying on private investors to address the nation’s growing infrastructure needs means that many important projects that do not deliver returns attractive to investors simply would not happen.
