Klobuchar Statement on the Nomination of Janet Yellen for Chair of the Federal Reserve

Oct 09 2013

Washington, DC –U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Vice Chair of the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee (JEC), today made the following statement after President Obama announced his nomination of Janet Yellen for the role of Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

“Over the course of her many years shaping fiscal policy, including her three years as Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve and six years running the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Janet Yellen has earned a reputation as an astute and respected economist,” Klobuchar said. “Yellen would bring a wealth of experience and insight to the role of Federal Reserve Chair and I look forward to meeting with her during the confirmation process.”

If confirmed, Yellen would succeed current Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke, who testified before the Joint Economic Committee in May. Yellen would also become the first woman to fill the top role at the Federal Reserve in its 100 year history.
